Individual Effective Communication Class
A professional trained and certified in the field of special education, speech pathology, psychology and/or social work will provide opportunities to acquire and enhance social skills development and improve communication in a one-on-one setting. The focus of lessons will be individually tailored to the client’s specific needs and level of functioning.
The effective communication skills that will be introduced and reviewed, are multifaceted, verbal and nonverbal, and include active listening, reflecting, patience, and turn-taking, as well as, expressing oneself with concise, clear, complete statements. Clients will learn appropriate assertive means of advocating for themselves and reflecting on others’ ideas. Interactive tasks and exercises will promote thinking and problem-solving within a discussion format as well as rehearse communication skills that occur in daily life, such as phone calls and public requests for information.
